Jarmila Melen Tomecek Jamie

Jarmila Jamie Melen Tomecek, age 85, died Tuesday, June 19, 2011 after a short illness.

Jamie, as she was known, was born in Lom u Mostu, Czechoslovakia Now Czech Republic on September 24, 1926 to Antonin and Bozena Melen. She left Czechosolvakia in 1969 with her husband, Milo Sr., and son, Milo Jr., for a better life in the United States. The transition was not an easy one, leaving your homeland and moving to another country where you did not speak the language. She did adjust, however, and learned to love her new life. Jamie worked for twenty plus years for Southside Animal Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Jamie was very much loved by the clients of Southside. Animals were her life-long passion and she loved every one of them. It was not uncommon for her to rehab a dog at her home. Another passion of Jamie's was her garden. Any visitor to her house was expected to take a walk out to her garden to see how it was growing. Spirituality was present in her life, and even though she had Catholic roots, she would worship at Wakeminster Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC when she lived with her son, Milo. She was very much loved by the members of Wakeminster Baptist Church. Jamie also became familiar with the Methodist religion while she was a resident of Magnolia Manor in Richmond Hill.

Jamie was preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty plus years, Miloslav Milo Tomecek, Sr. She is survived by a son, Miloslav Milo Tomecek, Jr., daughter-in-law, Kathleen Tomecek, grandchildren, Elizabeth Lai, her husband, Ted Lai of Atlanta, GA, Amber Arnold, her husband Brandon Arnold of Charlotte, NC and Justin Tomecek of Raleigh, NC, three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Abigail, and Uriah Arnold. Before the marriage to Milo Tomecek Sr., Jamie was married to the late Zdenek Rajgl, of the Czech Republic. He passed away from an illness during the first few years of their marriage and left her with a toddler son. From this marriage she is survived by her son Zdenek Rajgl, and spouse Jana Rajgl of the Czech Republic, granddaughter Sarka Arniotis, her husband, Spyros Arniotis, great-grandchildren Katrina and Christopher Kupcik of Canada, along with many relatives still living in the Czech Republic.

Jamie had a love and zest for life, she was always so full of energy. She was very much loved by her grandchildren and family, especially 12 year old Justin who she had a big hand in helping to raise and adored.

Please join the family for a graveside funeral and celebration of her life on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm, at Greenwich Cemetery in Savannah, GA. She will be buried beside her dear husband, Milo Tomecek, Sr.
